A Surprise In The Mail
by Ranil on May.30, 2008, under The Internet
A few days ago my package (insert school boy snicker) from the Something Store arrived. I was overjoyed and couldn’t wait to rip open the packaging and see what bounty awaited for me inside. From the picture attached to this post, you can see what I got.
Finding Kenny…
by Ranil on May.29, 2008, under Nostalgia, Points Of Importance
I need to say a special thank you Jenn for going through all the trouble of calling Dreamworld in Australia and convincing them to ship me a new Kenny for my birthday. The idea was to repair old Kenny with clothes and parts from new Kenny. A great idea (unless you ask Yuri), however when new Kenny finally arrived, after a very long journey from Australia, the plan fell through. As you can see, new Kenny doesn’t look anything like old Kenny. Unfortunately new Kenny looks like a very shoddier (budget downsizing) version of old Kenny and the clothes are horribly different. Old Kenny is beginning to show his age. His shoes are becoming horribly worn from many years of… well… just being around. I hear “Build-A-Bear” sells shoes that can possibly replace his worn one’s now, but I have yet to actually go check it out.
Back to the grind

Well, after a nice three day weekend (four for some) here I am, back doing the grind. The picture for today gives insight into the greater workings of cubicle life. Notice the awesomeness of three monitors, their colorful glaze hinting at greater programming productivity. See the faint outline of my "Grande Americano" and ponder at the life bringing warmth and caffiene it provides after a long relaxing weekend.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jose and Wendy Barton (Jose took Wendy’s last name because we all know she wears the pants in the relationship) for inviting me to their baby shower. They are expecting a baby boy very soon and Wendy hopes it has Jose’s legs, but her intelligence. I whole heartedly agree.
A new gadget in my life
by Ranil on May.22, 2008, under Technology
Being a computer geek and gadget freak I can honestly say I am in love with my new phone. I am now the proud owner of a HTC Touch (aka xv6900 for you Verizon fans). As much as I love it now, it only came after a few days of grueling hacking and flashing of the phone. Verizon in all its infinite wisdom disables a lot of the functionality of the phone so that way it forces you to use their service to transfer files and what not. Despite how much Verizon sucks, and how expensive they are, even if I were to leave them I’d just be stuck with another crappy cellphone company. However, thanks to PPC Geeks I’ve been able to upgrade it to use GPS and restore the Bluetooth functionality as it should be and make buying the phone worthwhile. While I am glad to have a phone again, it’s harder to find ways to avoid phone calls because now I actually have a phone that works. Curses!
But it is sleek and fun to use. I know it’s just a phone, but as our lives become more and more technology dependant and our technologies becoming more convergent, it’s good to know that I can send email wherever I get signal. Out of the box, it’s a decent phone, with a little tweaking it can become a great one.
