The Best Day Evah (2008 Edition)
by Ranil on Jul.07, 2008
On July 2nd, 2008 AD the universe conspired to put into place a series of events that would turn what was supposed to be an ordinary day for two young programmers living in los angeles into the “Best Day Ever”. The story involves a burger, a magic glove, and lyrics to an old Disney song. Interested? You should be.
Jokes aside, July 2nd 2008 was indeed one of the best days ever. Two weeks of feeling miserable finally gave way to something spectacular. For myself it was finding acceptance and peace. For Ian it was something more physical, more practical – a burger that hit him in exactly the right way and a cigarette that hit just as well. Either way, it became a day when I found a sense of happiness that I haven’t had in a while. I apologize for the deliriousness that it induced and how it may have come off to some, but I was happy and for that, you should be happy too!
It was a chance to reconnect with who I needed to be. Understand that I need to start doing the things I want to do, not just do the things that others want or expect of me. Learn to let go and become a better person. But also take the lesson’s learnt and use it to become something better. I became predictable and boring so I think I’m going to change that a bit. Learn to do what I enjoy doing. Coffee, reading, connecting with people, and trying new things. In the end, I may not be good enough for some, but I’ll be good enough for others.
Despite all of this, I do still get sad at times. A sense of regret over the people I hurt and people that hurt me. I miss a lot of people and I miss a lot of the old things. I do wish that my future planning worked out and the need for an exit strategy didn’t exist, but that is not the case. I have come to accept that find comfort in knowing that despite having the “Best Day Ever” there will be a lot more in store. And in the end, all of life’s problems can be solved over Dim Sum.

You sound like you’ve really been down and out. So sorry I haven’t been around. Anytime you want to share, let me know . . . our lives get busy and we neglect those that make a difference to us. Happy times!
