An Ode To Boredom
by Ranil on Jul.14, 2008
Boredom in the wrong hands can be a very dangerous thing. It may lead you to experience dizziness and feelings of inadequacy, not to mention a stupid affinity to punch immovable objects. It can cause constant refreshings of both Myspace and Facebook profiles looking for updates. It may also cause one to create a Plurk account and flood it with random musings of obscenity and histrionics. It can also be contagious, such as convincing your sister and your friend to also create Plurk accounts and fill it with obscenity and what not. Yes my friend, boredom is a dangerous thing. Fueled by caffeine it can stretch long into the night, way past a normal bed time.
But boredom isn’t all bad. It can lead to various insights as well. Insights into why the fuck there are so many blogs dedicated to downtown Los Angeles and L.A living. The home of the stars does tend to generate a plethora of postings as to what there is to do while living in L.A. Heck, this blog also fulfills that role, if not as widely read as others. Yes, boredom makes strange bed fellows. It makes you gasp in awe as the City Council ponders raising parking rates in downtown. It makes me happy thinking that living in the San Fernando Valley with it’s plentiful parking does has its benefits, if not a grueling commute. At this point, boredom and I are becoming best friends…
On this cool Monday night I sit and ponder – what the fuck is everyone else doing? Others travel across America in search of adventure and fun while I stare at my phone and then stare at the clock. This night needs to end, and eventually I’ll tire from all that caffeine that I’ve drunk and finally head off to bed. But until then, hello boredom my old friend… I’ve come to be with you again…
