Something New: Week 6 - Deep Sea Fishing
As always, a week behind and a dollar too short. This Something New is really the Something New of last week and I still have yet to find one for this week, but ignoring that, let us continue.
On an unassuming Saturday morning the ocean called to three men brave enough to step up and master its wily ways. They faced grueling obstacles both man made and nature caused. They faced sleeplessness, searing heat, and poison yet they returned home triumphant! The ocean was no match for these brave men and in return it opened its bounty to them and showered them with splendor.
Last Saturday found Arman and Myself waking up at around 3 am to ready ourselves for the adventure that lay ahead. Fueled by an early morning food run we made our way to Redondo Beach to meet up with Kendall and then headed out to hit the fishing boats in Long Beach. As the sun rose we would find ourselves heading out into the bay to begin the time honored ritual of deep sea fishing.
Luck found itself early in me and I managed to catch the first fish of the day amongst our trio - a barely legal sized Sand Bass. Soon thereafter Arman caught a Sculpin. This bad boy of a fish can cause painful and enormous swelling if you get managed to get stung. After this, my luck ran out. The prey turned to Barracuda instead Sand Bass and other fish that dwell in the briny deep. Alas, I found I could catch none. Kendall and Arman ended up with some pretty good catches, I was left to marvel at my one tiny Sand Bass and a Mackerel I decided to return to the ocean.
We left the boat a little reddened, the sun had taken its toll. We were weary and drained. Our catch cleaned and filleted we headed off into the sunset and grabbed some Pho.
