Something New: Week 8 – Boogie Boarding
by Ranil on Sep.21, 2008
Perhaps it wasn’t in my best interest to combat a cold by diving into the cold waters of the Pacific but when one receives a phone call on a Saturday afternoon to head out to Venice Beach and try to learn to surf for the first time, it’s hard to turn down. Armed with the idea that surf boards can be rented at the beach Jose, Ian, and I piled into a car and headed out west.
We met up with our friend Wes at his loft in Venice Beach. He too was battling a cold and perhaps deciding not to join us in trying to surf was the best decision he made for his cold. I on the other hand was not as smart. We walked down the beach in search of places renting surf boards. The only rental place we found was one that rented boogie boards. A disappointment to say the least. We had come to learn to surf (and to cross it off of Jose’s Bucket List) so this didn’t bode well for us. Well in the end, we decide, that’s close enough.
Armed with boogie boards we head out into the water. We were battered around but a lot of fun was had. It wasn’t surfing, but it was something. Maybe next time we’ll get surf boards and give it a shot. Hopefully next time I won’t be sick.
