Something New: Week 9 – Ken Oak Band
by Ranil on Oct.19, 2008
There’s a part of me that hopes Proposition 8 never passes simply due to my love for Ken Oak. I feel as if destiny led to me to find this Cello playing god on the streets of Santa Monica and fall madly head over heels for him. The way that cello and guitar mix almost sound as a choir of angels singing gentle love songs to me.
Joking aside I’ve been a big fan of Ken Oak since I saw him playing on Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica a few years ago. In many ways he made the cello cool again. I’m glad that I had the chance to see him play at an actual venue. After the show Sy made sure that I shook both band members hand and get an autographed CD – a feat I was reluctant to do simply being so overcome by the shine.
Aside from being greatly enjoyable and worthwhile seeing one of my favorite bands play old favourites (Slow Dance and Cold of December) and new singles it was a great way to ring in the weekend. I can’t wait to catch him again at the Apple Store in Glendale in a few weeks.
