Places to Eat In LA: Kyushu Ramen
by Ranil on Nov.09, 2008
In terms of comfort food Ramen has to rank up there with a nice Filipino breakfast. Braving the cold winds in the Valley my friends and I decided to head out to one of my favorite Ramen places outside of Little Tokyo – Kyushu Ramen. This place became a local favorite of mine a few years due to its location and its selection of different kinds of Ramen. This type of Ramen should not be confused with the prepackaged Ramen you find at stores due to its more complicated nature. While the main idea stays the same – noodles and soy or miso base – the collection of vegetables and different meats and spices make Ramen a truly enjoyable experience for me.
Not having had Ramen in a while I decided to keep it simple with a nice Chashu Ramen. Chashu is a type of barbequed pork thrown added into the Ramen. Unfortunately this type of Ramen is not spicy enough to meet my needs so I added my usual repertoire of additional spices to liven up the flavor. Add some Gyoza to the mix and you have yourself a wonderful soupy dinner with friends.
The after dinner tempura ice cream was lovingly turned a work of art depicting scenes of Armenian nature. Notice the way the tempura ice cream became a snow-covered mountain?
If you ever find yourself in the Valley craving Ramen head towards Sherman Way to get yourself a nice bowl of soy based goodness.
