The Voyage Home

How does life change when you’re not around? It’s a thought i’ve come to think about lately. How do people change and move on when you’re not looking? Because the world doesn’t stop simply because you want it to. The faces they shift and sway with the passage of time and the hearts that you once captured are no longer yours to hold.
How does life change when you’re not around? Objects and places change. People aren’t necessarily the people you left behind. But can there be that single thread that you hope once connected you?. Can your friends still be the friends that you left behind in an airport terminal? Will you still remember the quirks and the nuances of the people that you once shared your life with?
In returning home I found that the things I thought I remembered about the place I once called home aren’t necessarily the things I thought they would be. You don’t remember the people, the places, the faces. You forget what it was that made this home.
I would lose somethings along my journey. I would gain a lot too. Rediscovering family. Finding new faces. Enjoying new things. But you wonder about the people back home and how their lives have shaped a year away. I would wonder who came to fill in the gaps. I learnt the difference that a little effort makes in keeping connections alive. I learnt that sometimes not everything comes easy.
When I come back will I still remember the way home?
