Something New: Week 11 – Someplace New
by Ranil on Jan.17, 2009, under Something New
I won’t be home for a very very long time. A few months shy of my 28th birthday I decided that it was time to explore the world. I leave behind friends, family, and people I’ve gotten close to in the last few years.
My journey takes me to strange places – well not that strange (parts of asia) and then off to Australia. I leave behind too many memories and it’s hard not to feel a little overwhelmed and a little sad. So many things will happen in my absence and so many of the faces I’ve come to know will be different in both their looks and in their personalities.
I take pleasure in knowing that this is one of the best learning experiences I can have. So saying goodbye to those I said goodbye to is bittersweet. Some I will see again and will be glad to call friend. Others I expect to never see again and their faces will be resigned to shadows in my memory.
Follow me in my adventures because you may not be able to be with me, but you’ll never have left me.

New Years Eve 2008 found me in Redondo Beach celebrating it with dinner, drinks, and lots of beach fun. We celebrated the end to a very strange year for me and toasted to a brighter year filled with adventure and the unknown.
How do you measure a year?

A thousand cups of coffee later and the year draws to a close yet again. As the cold settles in over California I sit outside and brave the weather in search of cigarettes and inspiration. With 2008 ending and 2009 only a few hours away I sit and write this retrospective. What did I do yesterday?
Company Party 2008
by Ranil on Dec.12, 2008, under Life in Los Angeles, Work
With the holidays around the corner I made my way to the Marriot hotel to celebrate my companies annual christmas party. This is my last Christmas party with my company and so I decided to make the most of this event to mingle and talk to all my coworkers who made my time at the company worthwhile. The highlight of the day proved to be the after party drinks that I had with a few co-workers at Nick and Stef’s.
The Dicks, Chicks, Parachutes, and a Zipline Tour
by Ranil on Dec.01, 2008, under Something New, Tours
What makes a man give up a perfectly good Thanksgiving Dinner with family and friends? The chance at adventure and the opportunity to reach out and kiss the sky! It started off with an article about the kids at google installing a zipline. A few hours later and a dozen phonecalls away – the beginnings of a roadtrip to Northern California to ride the Zipline into infamy. A few days later the notion of Sky Diving fell into place. With that our roadtrip was born.
