Places to Eat In LA: Kyushu Ramen
by Ranil on Nov.09, 2008, under Places To Eat In LA
In terms of comfort food Ramen has to rank up there with a nice Filipino breakfast. Braving the cold winds in the Valley my friends and I decided to head out to one of my favorite Ramen places outside of Little Tokyo – Kyushu Ramen. This place became a local favorite of mine a few years due to its location and its selection of different kinds of Ramen. This type of Ramen should not be confused with the prepackaged Ramen you find at stores due to its more complicated nature. While the main idea stays the same – noodles and soy or miso base – the collection of vegetables and different meats and spices make Ramen a truly enjoyable experience for me.

I figure that since I love eating at new restaurants I’d make it a point to start telling people about the different places I try around the city. This week finds me at a small cafe located on Hillhurst Ave in Los Feliz.

Working in downtown Los Angeles is a great experience. Eating there, however, is mostly hit or miss. We have our usual lunch place which suffices if you’re interested in over paying for, what could be argued as, “so-so” quality food. So when the opportunity knocks to have lunch away from your usual spot you jump at it. This was the case on Thursday when a friend of mine whisked me away for my lunch hour for a truly interesting meal.
Nestled just outside of Old China Town is a sparkly building surrounded by aging warehouses and a school bus yard. This building is home to Homeboy Industries, a group dedicated to helping gang members and troubled youth turn their lives around by providing them with jobs and opportunities. One of those opportunities is called Homegirl Cafe.
