Something New: Week 13 – Birthday Under A Southern Cross

by Ranil on May.07, 2009, under Nostalgia, Points Of Importance, Something New

The changes in a year

Being unemployed is the pits. Being unemployed and sick is even worse. Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind sitting around doing nothing – outside of applying for jobs and reading an inordinate amount of news – but one eventually misses the routine provided by work. In all the chaos of finding a job and getting set up down under its easy to overlook ones birthday. But this year unlike most years I will be spending my birthday in a place I haven’t had a birthday in for almost 18 years.

New from the Old

by Ranil on Nov.24, 2008, under Nostalgia

It’s fun reconnecting. After getting over the initial shock at having not seen someone in a while you can’t help but smile as you talk and catch up on the events that transpired in days gone by. Sometimes you share old stories and ponder what old acquaintances are up to. Sometimes you share new stories of the joys and pain of life. Either way it’s a chance to become a friend with someone you thought you had lost a long time ago.

I am ready for a fall…

by Ranil on Mar.28, 2008, under Mindless, Ranting

Three months into 2008 and I’m already behind. Wow that was fast. At least one of the things I can be glad about is the fact that I’m not emo and not in Mexico. With the crazy amount of Anti-Emo rioting going on I’m scared for a few of my friends going down there – even if it is just to Tijuana.

I guess it’s not as bad as that poor Goth girl getting beaten to death by 2 guys simply because she was Goth. Wow, I think it was a lot saner when kids were killing each other over gang affiliations, but now simply out of social groupings I think we’re beginning to have issues here. I can only expect the hipsters to get involved into the fight soon. They’ll hit you with their 6 dollar coffee’s – not that there’s anything wrong with a six dollar cup of coffee (I love coffee).

And as I go back to my 3 dollar Americano, I leave you with this thought – hug a goth person today, it’ll probably brighten up their lives, who knows, maybe they’ll switch to being Emo instead of Goth.
