Purple is the new black

Tomorrow is the deadline for my bet with Ian to have dropped almost 30 pounds to my current weight. I believe I’m there but I can’t be quite sure, not having weighed myself in the last few days. It’s exciting to think that it’s been almost 4 months and in many ways I’m a different person. I’m more of the person I needed to be a long time ago but couldn’t bring myself to be.
An Afternoon In October

I can’t say that the idea of Chef Ljubomir Erovic’s new cookbook appeals to me. I must say there isn’t much I won’t try in the way of food, but this still stands to be a bit disturbing. This however, perhaps bodes a tad better than cannibalism, although to what degree I think is a matter of debate.
With the US Presidential Elections coming up very soon I ponder my fate. A bet with a friend means either I get an expensive dinner or pay for one depending on the results. I hope I win. My bet with Ian races towards its deadline and I find myself with 3 pounds to go. Twenty-six pounds in 3 months. Not a bad way to end the year.
Something New: Week 8 – Boogie Boarding

Perhaps it wasn’t in my best interest to combat a cold by diving into the cold waters of the Pacific but when one receives a phone call on a Saturday afternoon to head out to Venice Beach and try to learn to surf for the first time, it’s hard to turn down. Armed with the idea that surf boards can be rented at the beach Jose, Ian, and I piled into a car and headed out west.
Something New: Week 2 (Part 2) – The Hunt For Glowy Grunion
by Ranil on Jul.21, 2008, under Something New
In the warm summer months a strange spectacle takes place along the Californian coast. Thousands of fish known as grunions come ashore in the hopes of mating and laying eggs to ensure future generations. Amidst their writhing copulation, thousands of spectators yearly interrupt this slimy union and catch the participants in mid coitus. Some are thrown back for good luck and some are taken home to be eaten. This is the Grunion Run. This year I went to my first.
Something New: Week 2 (Part 1) – Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

On July 18th 2008, I shot a man with a 9mm Beretta. I calmly loaded the magazine into the gun, took aim, put my finger on the trigger and pulled. A couple of rounds later the man sported a hole in his head and a couple on his chest. I shot a man, and then I went to have coffee.
