Something New: Week 7 – Cessation
by Ranil on Sep.04, 2008, under Points Of Importance, Smoking, Something New
Lately I’ve been doing things in an attempt to make myself into the person I need to become. A chance to be a better person. It was a difficult road getting here and somethings were harder to do than others – some in the end were easier than I thought. My Something New was about finding things that would better me and find things that I could be interested in. It was meant to broaden my horizons. So, I think the next step in all of this is to do something I never thought I could.
Something New: Week 6 – Deep Sea Fishing
by Ranil on Aug.22, 2008, under Something New
As always, a week behind and a dollar too short. This Something New is really the Something New of last week and I still have yet to find one for this week, but ignoring that, let us continue.
On an unassuming Saturday morning the ocean called to three men brave enough to step up and master its wily ways. They faced grueling obstacles both man made and nature caused. They faced sleeplessness, searing heat, and poison yet they returned home triumphant! The ocean was no match for these brave men and in return it opened its bounty to them and showered them with splendor.
Something New: Week 5 – Tennis
by Ranil on Aug.07, 2008, under Something New
Somewhere in Griffith Park a legend was reborn yesterday. This weeks something new finds me brushing off my childhood training and showing to the world, and by the world I mean my old friend Gohar, the awesomeness of my Tennis skills.
It is always a relief when someone comes up with a good idea for me to do implement for my Something New, even better when they choose to join in. With Gohar back in town from San Francisco and taking a mini-retirement her suggestion to play tennis with her was taken with great enthusiasm. So, borrowing a racket from a friend we headed out to Griffith Park to hit around a few balls.
Something New: Week 3 – Changing My Own Oil
by Ranil on Jul.28, 2008, under Something New
Sometimes doing something new means learning to do things for yourself. This week I decided to try my hand at changing my own oil.
Usually when the Oil Maintenance Required light comes on in my car I cringe at the thought of having to take it in to have the oil changed, usually shelling out quite a bit in the process (Synthetic oil is expensive!). I decided that this week would be the week I take the plunge and try doing it myself. I mean, how hard could it really be right? People all around the world change their own oil and back in the day fathers taught it to their sons as part of growing up. Well, I didn’t have that experience so I had to rely on the good people at My.IS who wrote up a tutorial on how to change the oil in my car.
Something New: Week 2 (Part 2) – The Hunt For Glowy Grunion
by Ranil on Jul.21, 2008, under Something New
In the warm summer months a strange spectacle takes place along the Californian coast. Thousands of fish known as grunions come ashore in the hopes of mating and laying eggs to ensure future generations. Amidst their writhing copulation, thousands of spectators yearly interrupt this slimy union and catch the participants in mid coitus. Some are thrown back for good luck and some are taken home to be eaten. This is the Grunion Run. This year I went to my first.
